Who Is TEC Automation

TEC Automation is a Territory-based electrical and automation company delivering specialised solutions for critical infrastructure across the NT. Since 2019, we’ve built a reputation for technical expertise in complex industrial environments – from defence facilities and government operations to mining sites and commercial projects.

Our team brings over two decades of combined experience in automation systems, control engineering, instrumentation, and fire protection. We handle everything from SCADA and BMS programming to switchboard manufacturing and emergency electrical response, with full in-house capabilities from design through to commissioning.

Operating from Darwin and Katherine, we provide Territory-wide coverage with local knowledge that matters. We understand the unique challenges of working in remote locations, harsh environments, and critical infrastructure that can’t afford downtime.

As an Indigenous-owned business, we’re committed to creating opportunities in the Territory – currently supporting apprentices and trainees in the region. We’re proud members of NTIBN, AIDN, Territory Proud, and hold CAL Accreditation for Northern Territory government work.

Our Team

Behind every project is a team that knows the Territory, understands the technical complexity, and shows up to get the job done. TEC Automation’s field and office teams bring together specialist expertise across industrial electrical, instrumentation, automation, and fire protection – with the local knowledge to deliver in conditions that would challenge most contractors.

Soraya + Ryan Smith

Co-Directors

Ryan Smith brings over 14 years of experience in the electrical and instrumentation industry, with a dual trade background and deep specialist expertise in automation and control systems. His technical knowledge and hands-on approach to complex industrial problems is what sets TEC’s delivery apart.

Soraya Smith is the majority owner of TEC Automation, overseeing the business operations, finance, and administration that keep the company running efficiently. Born and raised in Darwin, Soraya is a descendant of the Butchulla people and brings a deep connection to the Territory and its community to everything TEC does.

Soraya provides up to 10 years of experience in Training, Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, Accounts and Administration.
Ryan
Director

Ryan brings versatility with his experience in multiple commercial and industrial applications from Sewer and Water systems large and small through to Industrial Air-conditioning Systems.

Daily Operations Team

Working In The Office

The Daily Operations Team is responsible for keeping TEC Automation running smoothly and efficiently. They are our customer contact point, there to answer questions, provide updates, and support our field team with their responsive and problem-solving approach on a daily basis.

The Technical Team are our skilled technicians on the ground, providing a high quality service to our customers and working with our clients to design solutions to any and all their Electrical, HVAC, Instrumentation, and Building Management SCADA needs.

Keiren has been working in our field team on his Cert III in Electrotechnology Electrician since 2020, and has been with TEC Automation since 2021.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology

Abhishek Arora, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, joined our team at TECA in 2023, working in both field and office team .

Grant Gallus, who joined TECA in 2021 and been working in field team, holds certifications in both Cert III Electrotechnology Electrician and Cert IV Controls & Instrumentation.
